En prenant ce week-end la seconde place de la quatrième épreuve du Rockstar Elite championnat de France, Nicolas Aubin a obtenu son meilleur résultat de ce début de saison. Seul pilote Rockstar Bud Racing en piste puisque Gregory Aranda ne fera sa rentrée que le week-end prochain, Nico qui roulait en 450 a redonné du même coup le sourire au staff du team !
C’est d’un commun accord, et pour tenter d’endiguer sa mauvaise passe en MX2, que la décision a été prise d’aligner Nicolas sur une 450 à Gaillac Toulza. Roulant sur sa moto d’entraînement le Normand a rapidement confirmé ses aptitudes dans cette cylindrée, signant dimanche matin la pôle position en qualification avec plus d’une seconde d’avance sur ses rivaux emmenés par Xavier Boog, le leader du championnat. Signant le holeshot en première manche, Nicolas allait se faire piéger par une ornière boueuse et perdait le commandement ; reparti en quatrième position il revenait rapidement troisième à distance du duo de tête, mais en forçant la cadence il attrapait mal aux bras mais n’en prenait pas moins la seconde place. Parti dans le top trois des deux autres manches, Nicolas allait se classer à chaque fois dauphin de Xavier Boog, se rapprochant de lui au fil des manches pour finir la journée à six secondes du 7ème meilleur pilote du moment en Mondial MX1. Un résultat encourageant qui ne devrait pas être sans suite, puisque dès ce week-end au Portugal Nicolas devrait s’aligner en Mondial MX1, une catégorie qu’il ne devrait plus quitter de la saison.
Nicolas Aubin : « Avec Stephane et Jacky nous avons décidé de disputer cette course en MX1, compte tenu des soucis rencontrés en MX2. Bien que je n’ai pas beaucoup roulé sur la 450 Kawasaki j’ai assez vite trouvé mes marques dimanche, puisque nous n’avons pas roulé samedi à cause de la pluie. Je signe la pôle aux essais, tout en étant gêné dans mon tour le plus rapide, mais en début de première manche je me suis fait piéger. Une ornière avait été recouverte de boue mais cela ne se voyait pas, et comme je suis arrivé le premier dans ce virage j’ai chuté. J’ai eu un peu mal aux bras en fin de course, mais les deux manches suivantes se sont bien déroulées et je me sentais de plus en plus à l’aise au fil de la journée. Malgré les déconvenues je n’ai jamais baissé les bras depuis le début de saison, et ce podium est une belle récompense. »
Stephane Dassé : « Nicolas a très bien roulé ce week-end, tout comme Xavier Boog qui n’a pas fait la moindre erreur ; Nico termine à trois reprises derrière lui pour sa première course en 450, il a fait trois courses solides et nous sommes vraiment contents pour lui, le team et nos partenaires. Du coup nous avons demandé au promoteur du championnat du Monde de le faire rouler en MX1, et nous avons enrôlé un jeune Américain qui va venir pour Agueda ; Michael Leib a 18 ans, vient des rangs amateur et nous a été conseillé par Troy Lee et roulera donc en MX2. Gregory va lui aussi revenir au Portugal ; il a repris l’entraînement mais a encore quelques douleurs au cou, et nous avons préféré différer son retour d’une semaine. »
First podium this season for Aubin!
Second overall in Gaillac during the fourth round of the Rockstar Elite French Championship, Nicolas Aubin claimed this weekend his first podium of the season. He was the single rider of the team on the track, but in Agueda next Sunday he will be joined by two teammates.
It’s with the agreement of the team that Nicolas decided to lineup on a 450 this weekend, and this podium confirmed the potential of the Frenchman who never got significant results in the MX2 class this season. On Sunday morning he claimed the pole position, followed by Xavier Boog leader of the series and the rest of the pack. Nico grabbed the holeshot in the opening race, but then was surprised by a muddy rut and lost the lead; fourth at this moment he came back third, then had arm pumped but finally scored a second position. Always in the top three at the start of the following heats, he secured twice the runner-up position behind Boog who is actually the 7th MX1 rider in the World Series. Coming closer in each race, Nicolas will continue the season on a 450 in all the Championships.
Nicolas Aubin: « After discussions with Stephane and Jacky we decided to ride a 450 this weekend, after all our problems in the MX2 class. I didn’t rode so much the 450 but I felt comfortable on the bike on Sunday, as the practice sessions were canceled on Saturday due to the rain. I got the pole position in the qualifying session, and then got the holeshot of the first moto. I was leading when I came in a corner and crashed; in fact there was a deep rut under the mud! I came back second, and then took again two second positions; I never stopped working since the beginning of the season, and this podium is a nice award for us. »
Stephane Dassé: « Nicolas was strong this weekend, as Xavier Boog who is leading the series; Nico finished the three races in second position, a good result for his first race on 450 this season, and we’re happy for him, the staff and our partners. We’ve asked an entry in the MX1 class to the promoter of the series for the next GP’s, we’ll lineup two MX1 riders as Gregory will be back next week in Portugal. He was practicing on the bike last week, but still has some pain in his neck so it was better to wait one more week. We’ll also enter an MX2 rider in Portugal, we’ll do a test with American Michael Leib; we had the contact with him through Troy Lee. This kid is eighteen years old and just starts his professional career; he will be our representative in the MX2 class in Portugal. » |
