Après une journée de samedi noire pour le team avec la blessure du pilote de pointe Gregory Aranda, la situation s’est comme la météo améliorée dimanche. Nicolas Aubin est pour la première fois de l’année rentré dans le ‘top dix’ d’une manche, alors que Dylan Ferrandis se classait quatrieme de la seconde manche juniors.
S’il existait un ‘trophée de la poisse’ nul doute que Gregory Aranda serait le lauréat 2010, tant il a manqué de réussite cette saison. On pensait dans le team Rockstar energy Bud Racing Kawasaki que la tendance avait enfin tourné, mais en se faisant percuter au départ de la course qualificative du samedi Greg faisait une mauvaise chute, se fracturant tibia et péroné de la jambe droite ! Si Michael Leib toujours gêné par sa blessure au poignet ne parvenait à faire de miracle en MX2, qui plus est sur le sol très dur du circuit Catalan de Bellpuig, Nicolas Aubin confirmait lui son retour progressif au premier plan. Il réussissait un bon départ en première manche, prenant un bon rythme pour aller décrocher une neuvième place encourageante pour tous ; un peu moins bien parti en seconde manche il allait s’énerver derrière Coppins et partait à la faute, terminant néanmoins la manche à la limite des points.
De retour en lever de rideau du GP, le championnat du monde 125 Junior débutait bien pour Dylan avec une belle seconde place dans la qualif du samedi. Mal parti en première manche dimanche ; trentième au troisième tour Dylan allait revenir en dix septième position, avant de jouer aux avant postes dans la seconde manche qu'il terminera en Quatrième position, il prend la neuvième place de l’épreuve et remonte à la huitième place d’un championnat qui reprendra début juin à l’occasion du Grand Prix de France.
 
Nicolas Aubin : « Avec un bon départ en première manche j’ai pu me faire plaisir sur ce circuit qui était vraiment très bien préparé, je n’ai pas dépensé trop d’énergie et j’ai trouvé de super trajectoires. Je ne suis pas encore au top physiquement, mais j’étais content de cette neuvième place après m’être battu avec des pilotes comme Leok ou De Dycker. La 450 Kawasaki Bud marche vraiment bien, nous avons un super moteur. Je me suis fait un peu enfermer au second départ, je me suis retrouvé douzième derrière Coppins sans pouvoir le passer. J’ai forcé et je suis allé à la faute ; reparti dernier je remonte à la lisire des points, mais j’ai tenu à finir cette seconde manche. »
 
Stephane Dassé : « La blessure de Gregory qui revenait à son meilleur niveau est un coup dur, maintenant il lui faut se rétablir et il reprendra quand il sera prêt, sans doute pour la saison de Supercross. Le point positif est que Nicolas est rentré dans le top dix d’une manche MX1, il a fait une belle course et c’est encourageant pour la suite de la saison. Michael Leib a essayé de rouler en MX2 mais la douleur était encore trop forte, d’ici deux semaines cela devrait aller mieux pour le GP des Etats Unis. Dylan s’est raté lui au premier départ du junior, mais sa seconde manche confirme sa progression malgré son petit gabarit et nous allons tous continuer à travailler dur pour continuer dans cette voie. »

 

Top ten result for Aubin and Ferrandis

After a disappointing Saturday as Rockstar energy Bud Racing Kawasaki leader Gregory Aranda broke his right leg at the start of the MX1 qualifying race, Nicolas Aubin and Dylan Ferrandis claimed both a top ten result on Sunday during the Grand Prix of Spain, fifth round of the World Championship.

Nicolas was the only member of the team at the start of the MX1 class on Sunday after teammate Gregory Aranda, surely the most unfortunate rider of the 2010 GP season, suffered a fracture of the lower right leg which will keep him out of racing for some weeks. In his second GP since transferring to the MX1 class Aubin gave the first indications that he will soon be a major threat for honors as he battled with the eventual GP winner Leok and multiple MX1 GP winner De Dycker throughout the opening race on his way to 9th place. A similar finish looked on the cards in race two until he momentarily forgot the tremendous power of his new bike and lost a lot of time in a crash before mounting a charge which almost took him back into the points.
Spain was the first GP opportunity for 18 year old American Michael Leib. The Californian teenager had broken a bone in his hand less than two weeks ago and was not yet able to withstand the rigours of two full GP motos; he was forced to withdraw after a few laps of each race because of pain from the hand but has shown a good turn of speed and both rider and team are optimistic that he will be able to start to show his true potential in the US GP at Glen Helen, just a short distance from his home town of Temecula, in two weeks time.
In the Junior World series back in the GP program, Dylan Ferrandis offer the best results to the team. After Dylan hit the gate in race one and recovered from last to seventeenth. His second race was much better and after a decent start, Dylan raced very well to finish fourth. He is currently eighth of the series before the next round scheduled in three weeks time in France.

Nicolas Aubin: « I got a great start in the first race and found some good lines to battle with riders like Leok and De Dycker to finish ninth. The track was really well prepared, I had fun on the bike and didn’t spend too much energy; that was important as my physical condition is not yet back at his best and the KX450F Kawasaki that Bud has prepared for me is really powerful. The engine is great and I feel more and more comfortable every time I ride the bike. I didn’t start so well in the second race but I moved quickly up to 12th before getting stuck behind Coppins. I just couldn’t find a way past him and ended up trying too hard and crashing. By the time I got going again I was last, but I didn’t want to pull out and in the end I only just missed out on a point by one place and a few seconds.»

Stephane Dassé: “Greg was back to his best level and ready to fight the best places of MX1 class and this injury is a shame for all of us, now he will take some time to recover and will be back when ready, probably this summer for the Supercross season. For the first time this season Nicolas finished a GP race in the top ten, he did a strong race and that’s good news. Michael Leib had too much pain but for sure it will be better in two weeks time for the US Grand Prix, while Dylan proved his enormous potential in the second race. We’ll all continue to work hard for the rest of the season.”
